Welcome! This is going to be a great school year! This class is divided in literature, writing and grammar. We will be using one notebook for all three classes as they are related to one another.

Objectives/Accomplishments:

• Finish watching the videos of The Odyssey
• In groups of 3, students will read the assigned part of The Odyssey and write a summary of it
• In groups of 3, students will work on the mosaic about the assigned part of The Odyssey

Writing:

• Writing a cause and effect essay: writing to persuade.
• Students will check the essays amongst themselves

• Write an essay about why the person you chose is admirable
• Peer edit-Essay
• Do a biography web about your hero

Grammar

• Finish writing and hand in the sentences using the parts of speech

Week of August 22-26
Objectives/Accomplishments:

• Finish the Rubric lesson, go over each category of the rubric.
• Review the writing process steps and the structure of an essay
• Introduction to epic hero
• Introduction to epic poem
• Background of the time of The Oddysey
• Start reading The Oddysey

Week of August 17-19
Objectives/Accomplishments:

• Discuss class expectations and write them in first person on notebook. By Friday you have to have all expectations written in first person on your notebook.
• Send an email to me requesting wiki sign up instructions (I want to have your email for future contact)
• Become a member of the wiki page of the class and familiarize yourself with the posted information. By this Friday everybody has to be a member of the wiki.
• Understand how we will use the notebook in this class
